The residents of Kolontar were attempting to piece their lives back togther after a wave of toxic red mud swept through their small village two days ago, killing four and injuring scores more. The accident – which officials say is Hungary’s worst-ever chemical accident and an „ecological disaster” – occurred on October 4 afternoon, sending a wave of stinking red sludge through seven villages in the west of the country, leaving a trail of devastation across an area of 40 square kilometers (15.4 square miles).
